Southtown Hounds at Squirrels April 20, 2002

The question is this... What will Greg (Squirrel) do next to accommodate the amassing Southtown Hounds crowds?   Perhaps he will consider pulling all the tables as AJs will be doing later this month.  I thought by now (my fourth {or is it fifth} show) I would be able to more accurately express the mystique surrounding The STHounds.  I can verify their draw (confirmed once again during their performance at the MayDay festival,) but I can not tap the power source they have harnessed which ignites their long lasting groove.   The best advice is to watch for their gig dates and then rearrange your schedule to ensure your available to funk.... All you need to do next is show up.... The STHounds will take care of the rest. --- The Regular Guy, April, 2002

Southtown Hounds at Squirrels November 3rd, 2001

Just 'be' in the room with the hounds for one song and you are transported to your own personal better place.  Other than the occasional redlined vocals to bring you out of your trance, you will slip in and out of inner grooves that are enabled by the amazing rhythm section and the perfectly matched vocals by the man in charge of the vibrating bass lines.  At times, Luke (lead guitar) provided a rhythm that is normally found on keyboards in reggae beats.  With the polished rhythm Luke provides while he continues with creative licks, it had me wondering what a jam with Luke and Jerry Joseph would be like.  Even the pool sharks had a new found appreciation for the STH talent.  Akhim, who did not come for the show, later said " you don't realize how much they are adding to the scene" He seemed quite impressed with the 'feel.'  -- The Regular Guy, November, 2001

Chad Richins, of The Commuter A&E, could not believe his good fortune to review Southtown Hounds at Squirrels last April.  Here are a few of Chad's quotes:

bullet"...the band has become the heir apparent to the throne of the best homegrown band in the area."
bullet" (the crowd) gyred and spun like a group of wine-soaked Dionysian revelers, like anything but up-tight modern day humans with care payments and jobs and kids at home with  the sitter."  The Regular Guy hasn't heard of all the words Chad used, but his point is clear.  This band grooves!
bulletChad also had this say about guitar slinger Luke Thomas "Thomas' guitar style is smooth as Herradura Tequila, sharp as a razorblade, tight as a cowgirl's jeans.  On the song, "Going Back to Georgia" he had a Mark Knopfler on "Sultans of Swing" vibe going on, only not so rockabilly."
